A basic analysis via an arXiv API filter search showed that there is a growing number of submissions within the physics category that discuss sustainability in some form.
We argue that some pre-prints are incorrectly assigned to other sub-categories due to the lack of a physics and sustainability sub-category.
We suggest that a minimum of 7% of the analysed physics.soc-ph pre-prints that matched our sustainability arXiv API search filters would be better suited to a sustainability sub-category.
We therefore propose to add a sub-category 'physics.env-sust'.
To do so, we must collate a list of pre-prints to kick-off this sub-category.
