The goal of the Sustainable HECAP+ (High Energy Physics, Cosmology, Astroparticle Physics and related disciplines) Initiative is to develop, support, and promote international and interdisciplinary efforts that will empower the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices in basic research. It is actively contributing to the growing global movement calling and striving for a more sustainable future. The Initiative is focussed primarily on High Energy Physics, Cosmology, and Astroparticle Physics, and related disciplines such as Hadron and Nuclear Physics, which rely on similar research infrastructure or face similar challenges in achieving greater environmental sustainability.
Registration and abstract submission remain open for the 5th Sustainable HEP Workshop, which will take place online from 8 - 10 July 2026. Abstract submission closes on 30 April 2026.
CERN will host the first Sustainability Conference for Responsible Research Computing (SC4RC) 4 - 8 May 2026. Join us for the public webinar: "Environmental Impacts of Big Computing", which will be hosted by Loïc Lannelongue (University of Cambridge) and broadcast via YouTube.
Sustainability Conference for Responsible Research Computing
4-8 May 2026, CERN
We are a voluntary international community of scientists and engineers (students, researchers, and academics), working together to improve the environmental sustainability of basic research.

The Sustainable HECAP+ Initiative is looking for motivated people to help drive sustainability efforts across high energy physics, cosmology, astroparticle physics, and related disciplines. Whether you're interested in analysing the environmental impacts of basic research, helping expand our web resources and presence, launching your own project, or simply joining some of our meetings to find out more, we want to hear from you!
